Panaji – Goa: The Rituparno Ghosh directed Hindi / Bengali film “Nauka Doobi” with Riya, Raima Sen and Prosenjit Chatterjee and produced by Subhash Ghai under Mukta Arts was premiered in Goa in IFFI festival today. Gulzar wrote lyrics of Tagore from Bengali to Hindi and the film was based on “Ship wreck” a story written by poet Tagore.
A period film set in 1920s during British Raj, it depicts the struggle between true love and conventions relating to wedlock. The hero is forced to marry a girl whom he had not seen as per his parents’ choice. The newly married couple and hero’s parent travel by a boat that capsizes and a series of events take place thereafter.
Marriage is the bone of contention in the film. The director broke his leg just before the release in Goa!
