Mangaluru : The Muslim forum has objected to the possible candidature of former minister Vinaya Kumar Sorake from Dakshina Kannada.
Dakshina Kannada Zilla Muslim Sangatanegala Okkoota has warned that it will field an independent candidate against Sorake if Congress gives him the ticket to contest from Dakshina Kannada constituency.
Addressing reporters, Okkoota president K Ashraf said that they oppose Sorake for shaming the Muslim community. “Sorake had ignored Muslims during local body elections held for GP, TP and ZP in Udupi when he was the district minister.
He had also made an immature statement that ‘Muslim candidates will not win elections as Hindus do not vote for them’. In fact, he has mocked at the secular principles of Congress. True Congressmen never look at caste and religion while voting. Leaders like Sorake, who has been occupying responsible positions, should not make such statements,” Ashraf said. Okkoota will field an indipendant candidate and campaign against Sorake, Ashraf said, and added: “We have no problem with any candidate in Congress other than Sorake.”
