Mumbai: while smoking by Aishwarya Rai in a film was objected to, Sharmila Tagore has been told to avoid the mention of ‘Bombay’ in any Hindi or Marathi film certified by CBFC headed by her.
Sharmila asked the members of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to censor ‘Bombay’ and use ‘Mumbai’ instead. Two or 3 films had referred to Mumbai by its old name ‘Bombay’ which Maharashtra Nawanirman Sena did not like. The MNS party delegation visited the CBFC office on Tuesday and had written a letter on Nov. 23 on the issue.
However, the Bombay University still goes by the old name and thousands of educational certificates every year are issued in that name, as also the Madras University, but Thackerays seem to ignore this reality. The age-old question / oops up –what’s in a Name?
