Mangalore : The Lions and Lioness Club, Highland and Ashoknagar, in association with NSS Unit of Ramakrishna College organized ‘Nirmal Nagar Abhiyan’, near Bunts Hostel Circle on October 9, Saturday.
DC V Ponnuraj inaugurated the Abhiyan to be held from Bunts’ Hostel Circle to Central Market, via Hampankatta and State Bank.
Speaking after inaugurating the campaign, he said that Compared to other places, Mangalore people are conscious about the cleanliness. But they give more importance to clean their own houses and not the society.
In places like Puttur, Sullia and Mulky, the house to house collection is going well, But in Mangalore it is not practiced, hence it must be implemented again. Those who not co-operate with the procedure will be charged with the penalty and water supply connection will be cancelled, he said.
The Pachanady waste management will make a Scientific Waste Disposal Site, further the tender will be called soon, he informed.
In the sidelines, speaking to the media persons, DC said that without banning the plastic also things can be improved. In Madras , with the use of plastic, the crude oil has been made and now it has been introduced in Mysore too, further Mangalore Will also follow it.
Paura Karmika’s like Veeresh and Kottaribai were felicitated for their service in the city on the occasion.
