Mangalore: The Mangalore Airport at Kenjaru in Bajpe has won the ‘Best Fire station’ trophy in the entire south zone.
It is based on drill, preparedness of Fire fighters and managers, machinery and equipments, discipline and safety levels, standard of safety vehicles and basic amenities provided to staff and other such issues, M.R Vasudeva director of local airport explained.
However awards announced for fire fighting personal during the tragic  air crash at Bajpe on 22nd May, 2010 subsequently for their day and night toil, have created notes of discord. Their commendation letters could fetch them only Rs.100 for all the sincere work they did then.
Even policemen keeping watch at the crash site were sanctioned around Rs.2000, it is said.
