Mangalore: The Arts Teachers Educational Festival for 2010 got off to a grand start at Hampankatta Milagres College grounds in the port city. Painters and artists, even sand creations, from Mangalore region and Udupi district had come for the Camp today (Nov. 19, Friday) morning, inaugurated by DK KSP Chief Pradeep K. Kalkura at 10.30 am.
A large architectural creation was unveiled on the occasion by Fr. Francis Desa of Father Muller’s Institution.

Fr. Lawrence D’souza, Principal of Milagres College presided over the event. He told the audience that man takes birth already imbibing a fine art, say sculpture, handicraft or any art. As he grows up several new ideas confront him which interact with him to give his art new shapes and colours.
Artist Gopadkar, speaking for fine arts teachers assembled in the gathering, stated that every man has an artist within him waiting to come out. Only when he manifests such art, we know he has this art in him, like a sand sculpture. The artist then expresses his thoughts in various forms and creations. The expressions give him mental satisfaction finally, Gopadkar informed.
The exhibition of various arts, handicrafts and sculptures will be on for 2 days at the Milagres College in the heart of the city. It will have a Thermocol arts (sculpture) exposure.
Retired arts teachers will be honoured on the occasion. Talented arts students will be given awards. A sand sculpture demonstration by coastal artists has been arranged at the Panamboor beach at 4 pm today.
The entire training festival programme ends on Saturday evening with a valedictory session at 3 pm on Nov. 20, 2010.
Ganesh Karnik, MLC, M. Ragunath Shet of S.L Shet Jewellers, Block Educational officer Dayavathi, Kota Prasad Alva of Prasad Arts Gallery and other dignitaries attended the inaugural events.
Organiser Ganesh Somayaji welcomed the guests. Satyanarayana and Taranath Kairangala conducted the proceedings.
