Mangalore : On the night of Tuesday, July 6, the mobile selling shop of Essar group in Ballal Bagh on MG Road, was broken open and over 150 mobile phones were carried away by robbers. This crime was revealed on today morning, and the loss is estimated at more than Rs. 15 lakhs.
The city was just recovering from a Bundh affair and heavy rains at night in a week. At 9.30 Pm the shop duty manager, Suresh, had locked the showroom and gone home. Only when he had opened the doors this morning, he was stunned to realize a huge robbery of phones. About Rs. 40,000 cash in the box also has been stolen, it was found, to the misery to Suresh. The stolen mobile phone brands were Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola and other such renowned companies.
The locker of the showroom was found broken and the thieves made away with the booty in the rainy season when people sleep soundly. Only mobile sets (and cash) were taken away. The Incharge manager Dinesh has lodged a complaint with the Bunder Police on the robbery case.
IP Vinay Gaonkar visited the spot and ordered a Mahajar (scenic investigation). Police dogs and forensic experts also were taken to inspect the scene of robbery. A CCTV has been set up, which could facilitate police enquiry and catching the thieves early. However, the night-lifters (thieves) have taken care probably to see the working of CCTV put off, it is surmised.
