Mangalore : One worker died and two others were hospitalized in critical state following ammonia leakage in the freezer compartment of the Indo Fisheries  factory at Eliyarapadavu near Harekala near Konaje on Wednesday, February 13 night.

The deceased is Riyaz (22) of Kumbke. Haneef (23) of Kotekar Beeri and Sanket (23) of Kumble have been admitted to the hospital in a critical stage.

The mishap took place at around 8.30 am when  ammonia leakage was reported from the freezer. The three had been to check the same when they were caught in ammonia fumes and had to be rushed to the hospital. Riyaz however breathed his last in the hospital.

The fire tender vehicles which rushed to the spot, reduced the impact of ammonia leakage by spraying water. Though this is aid to be first such leakage reported from the factory which had around 300 workers, locals say the apathy of the factory management had led to the problem.
