Udupi : Padubidri police have arrested a person connected to murdering his colleague who was found dead at Bikriguthu near Padebettu village on May 8.
UPCL employee Raja Patil’s half-decomposed body was found at Bikriguthu near Padebettu village on Friday, May 8. It was wrapped in a large plastic sheet while a rope was found tied around the neck. The identity was established through the uniform.
The police had suspected that Raja must have been murdered. His reporting authority at the UPCL had informed that he had gone on leave for his cousin’s marriage from April 17 and never returned back. A missing complaint was also filed at the Padubidri police station.
It is said, Subrahmanya was in need of money and since Raja was going to attend his cousin’s marriage, he thought that Raja must be carrying a heavy purse and hence plotted to kill Raja.
As per the phone records, police suspected foul play of Subrahmanya and interrogated him. During this process,
Subrahmanya has revealed the police he was invited Raja over to his house. While the latter was watching a TV show, Subrahmanya strangulated Raja to death using a wire and to confirm that he was dead, he sliced a part of Raja’s neck. He then wrapped the body in a plastic sheet and dumped it in a secluded place.
Subrahmanya, during interrogation is said to have revealed that he could get away with only Rs 1,300 from Raja’s wallet.
The police said the accused has also admitted that he had burnt the ATM card and sim card of Raja.
DySP Vinay S Nayak and Kaup Inspector Sunil Nayak were also present at the press meet among others.
