Mangalore/Udupi: Health protection workers associated with “:108 emergency Ambulance” vehicle services in DK/Udupi districts, kept away from work on Wednesday, seeking immediate fulfillment of their demands.
It is gathered that an indefinite strike has been launched by them.
The workers are asking for a monthly salary on par with those government nurses and drivers, with weekly holidays, 8-hours work shifts, ESI cards and PF facilities.
Last year they had gone a strike and got a small hike in salaries. D.H.O,
Dr.Srirangappa informed pressmen on Thursday that only 3 out of 19 drivers of “108” vans returned the keys, but none returned the official mobile phones, so a case is failed in the city police station against them. He said the Health department will not inconvenience anyone by this strike.
In Udupi 45 health workers managed 11 ambulances but none received any calls, on Wednesday (September 28). They are in Freedom Park at Bangalore on protest call, it is stated.
