Mangalore: Union Law minister Veerappa Moily on Saturday launched a model project of lighting up rural homes by switching on power connections for about 50 houses, under a special initiative of Rotary club of Bantwal, where over 100 families near Vagga under Kavalapaduru GP are going to be beneficiaries.
The wiring work of another 50 houses has been completed and in the next few weeks all the other houses in Kadabettu village will be ready to receive lights.
The Rotary Club is providing the cost of 75 electric poles, totaling Rs.10 lacs. Poor beneficiaries have been identified. Each house gets around 240 watts, said RC chief M.Ashiwini Kumar Rai. His club will also provide solar power houses which are unfit for electrification, as per MESCOM norms.
