New Delhi: The post mortem report of Sunanda Pushkar is expected to come today as the doctors at All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS) ruled out the presence of alcohol in her body, reports said.
However, the doctors haven’t ruled out detection of anti-depressant drug Alprazolam, an overdose of which might have led to her death, reports said.
Also, an empty strip of Alprax (a tranquilizer) was recovered from her room on the day she died, said investigators.
The autopsy was performed by a three-member team of doctors at AIIMS, who had earlier said that her death was “sudden and unnatural”.
Sunanada’s autopsy report would be handed over to the Sub-Divisonal Magistrate, who will reassess the statements recorded in connection with the mysterious death.
Sunanda, 52, was found dead in her hotel room in Leela Palace in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri on Friday.
As it has been only over three years since the marriage of Sunanada Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor, the inquest proceedings into the death has to be overseen by the SDM.
So far, the SDM Alok Sharma has recorded the statement of eight people in connection with the case.
The statement of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor was recorded today by the SDM that lasted over an hour during which he was interrogated about his alleged relationship with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.
Tharoor also wrote a letter to Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, saying that he was “horrified” to read the “reckless speculations” over the matter in the media.
Promising full cooperation in the probe, he also urged the minister to instruct for a speedy investigation for the truth to come out at the earliest.
The entire saga revolving around the couple’s life played out in the open on Twitter when a series of tweets by Sunanda Pushkar slammed Mehr Tarar.
Mehr on the other hand has told an international newspaper that she is completely shattered by Sunanda’s death and it will “haunt her for ages”.
Talking to the Daily Telegraph, Mehr said, “I would rather have her abuse me for the next ten years than to see her harm herself…”
She denied anything going on between her and Tharoor and said, “Mr Tharoor loved his wife like “a romantic saga hero. Nothing meant more to him than making her happy,” she told the newspaper.
The love triangle war raging over the social media network Twitter took an ugly turn on Jan 17, when Sunanda Pushkar’s dead body was found from Hotel Leela Palace in New Delhi.
Sunanda’s death came just a couple of days after the couple had on Twitter issued a joint statement saying they were happily married, trying to douse the speculations in media.
52-year old Sunada had checked in Leela Palace Hotel alone on Jan 15, reportedly after a bitter fight with her husband at the airport.
Sunanda had recently got herself checked up at Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) however the doctors say she didn’t suffer from any fatal disease.
A probe into her death has been ordered by the sub-divisional magistrate of the area. Shashi Tharoor, who was himself hospitalised after chest pain, hours after his wife’s death, will record his statement before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate on Monday. Sunanda, 52, was found dead in her hotel room in Leela Palace in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri on Friday.
Sunanda’s remains were consigned to flames at the Lodhi Road crematorium, with her son Shiv menon and father PN Dass in tears.
