Sullia : A female student died after consuming rat poison at Devachalla in Sullia taluk on Friday, March 12.

The deceased girl is Yashaswini(13), daughter of Eshwara. She was an eighth standard student of Elimale High School.

Sources said Yashaswini had purchased the rat poison from a shop almost a week ago and had taken it to school. It is learnt, she fell ill at school following which teachers sent her home after providing first aid. She was then admitted to a hospital in Sullia after her condition deteriorated. Later she was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru but her life could not be saved.

The reason behind her consuming poison is not known.
