Mangaluru: A 14-year-old girl has suffered burn injuries all over her right leg after a street hawker running an eatery splashed hot oil from the pan on her.
The incident took place on January 11 when Amanda Rhea D’Costa, the victim, was walking with her mother at the Central Market buying fruits and vegetables.
“Amanda and her mother finished shopping and were walking out of the market towards the car which was parked a little away as there is no appropriate parking at the market. As they were walking, a street hawker hurriedly crossed the road with a pan filled with hot oil in her hands.
In her bid to cross, the woman collided with Amanda and the oil fell on her leaving her with severe burn injuries,” Victor D’Costa, Amanda’s father told.
There are several street hawkers selling snacks in the market.
Amanda is the eldest of the two daughters and a resident of Bajjodi in Bikarnakatte. She is a Class IX student at a CBSE school in the city. Semester exams are around the corner and her parents rue that Amanda may not recover from the burns soon enough to write the exams.
