Mangalore : Addressing Lundreds of Muslim who had gathered at the Milagres Public Hall in city today, for a mass marriage of 15 couples, organized by the Beary Welfare Forum (BWF) of Abu Dhabi, the Mangalore Qazi. Thwaja Ahmed Musliyar stated that Islam had introduced the simplest easiest and best for of marriage in the last 12 centuries or more, the world over, but non – Islamic and ignorant practices had converted an agreement of social happiness into an unbearable burden for middle classes among Muslims.
He reiterated that Nikah was the simplest form of marriage, but dowry menace spoilt the easy for of marriage in Myslim society. He remarked that only Ambanis and other rich families only can perform marriages of their daughters lavishly these days. Mass marriage was a way out of dowry problem facing limited income groups.
He asked mass-marriage organized not to spend lavishly, even on bouquets.
Udupi Kazi, Bekal Ibrahim Musliyar, who inaugurated the ceremonies, advised the youth to marry in a simple way.
Mohd. Ali Uchila of Abu Dhabi, BWF welcomed the gathering, and delivered the presidential address.
Sheikh Bawa, Vice – President of BWF in Abu Dhabi, made the introductory remarks.
CM Ibrahim, a former Union minister, city MLA U.T. Khader, B. Ahmed Haji, Mohiuddin, an educationist and the SP of DK dt., A.S. Rao, also spoke.
Several distinguished Muslims and Hindus attended the event in which 7 orphan girls and 8 others entered into matrimony. The couples were presented each with 4 sovereign gold jewellery, wedding dresses and other costs of Rs. 1.25 lakhs each, per couple by the Forum that organized the social unions and solemnized the Nikah ceremonies.
