Mangaluru: District in-charge Minister UT Khader inaugurated the 150th birth anniversary programme of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhiji at Town Hall on Tuesday.
District in-charge minister UT Khader inagurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, police commissioner, T R Suresh , superintendent of police, Ravikanthe Gowda, MLC Ivan D’souza Offered floral tributes to the portrait of Gandhiji.
We need to imbibe the values and teachings of Gandhi in our daily lives. His teachings get more and more importance and relevance these days. Peace, non-violence, harmony and discipline were the trademarks of Mahatma Gandhi.
Stating that those criticising Gandhiji are not aware of his contributions to the country he called upon the present generation to know more about the great leader and his teachings.
“In the world, there is a perception that India means Gandhi and Gandhi means India. The responsibility to save and nourish this perception is on us,” he added.
Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath presided over the programme.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, Zilla Panchayat President Meenakshi Shanthigodu, Commissioner of Police T R Suresh Kumar, ZP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Selvamani, Kannada Sahitya Parishat District President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura among others were present.
