Mangaluru: “Nagarika Horata Samiti will hold a protest march on September 19, for including the names of Nagarika Horata Samiti members in rowdy sheeters’ list for protesting against MRPL’s third phase coke sulphur plant,” said Samiti leader Muneer Katipalla.
He was addressing the press personnel on Thursday at district DYFI office.
“Some of the samiti members are charged with rowdy sheets. By this move police are trying to curb the protests of the samiti. Surathkal station Inspector Cheluvaraju has filed the fake cases on samiti members. So, we are carrying out a protest march from Surathkal railway bridge to police station holding black flags in hand,” he said.
Previously the samiti had opposed the construction of third phase sulphur and coke plant, as there were some chances of causing environmental related issues. Many protests had been staged against it. During that time police had registered case against the samiti members for not getting prior permission before staging the protest and for many other things.
Later, MRPL and SEZ had agreed to withdraw all the cases against the samiti members, but instead of closing the cases Inspector Cheluvaraju had file rowdy sheet on some of the samiti members.
Moreover, he had issued a notice also to pay the bond of Rs 50,000 and abised them by callng in singular form.
Samiti members B S Hussain, Abubakkar Bava, Shamsuddhin and others were present at the press meet.
