Guang – Zhou (China): India has got into double digits in the Medals haul. When Vikas Krishan from Punjab, just 18, secured a gold in boxing bouts and India reached 10 golden Medals last night Vikas beat a Chinese opponent Hu Qing in 60 kg category finals to bring the first boxing gold in a terrific inspiring fight.
Vikas won by 5-4 rounds in a keenly fought finals that wont to the ropes. He recovered brilliantly from a deficit against a senior boxer to hold India’s flag high and National Anthem heard by all at the Podium honours. Vikas had thrashed on Uzbek 7-0 in the earlier match. He has a great future before him.
In 81 kg category, Dinesh Kumar could not beat an Uzbek Rasulov (10-4) and had to be content with a sliver in the finals.
The total tally now is 10 gold, 14 Silver and 30 Bronze.
