Bantwal: A stone slab on a minor bridge across a vented dam, constructed 20 years ago by ZP, gave way when 2 students were walking on it on Tuesday morning to their college, injuring them during sudden collapse of the stone.

The incident occurred in Vitla Casba village at Badanaje. The injured boys were Suhail(a Muslim) from Kolambe and his companion Samsher of Nelligudde studying in Vitla Pu College. The bridge connects several villages around.

The Weak bridge was unsafe but was never repaired by PWD or taluk authorities in spite of appeals to do so. The boys landed on a heap of garbage to lessen the impact of stone slab fall.

The injured boys are under treatment in a local medical unit, managed privately.
