Mangaluru : A 25-year-old man from Gadiyar near Puttur and his younger brother died after their motorcycle was hit by a sand-laden lorry in Kedila village on Wednesday.

The Puttur Traffic Police said that Mohammed Ashiq (25) and his brother Mohammed Shafeeq (23) were going towards Uppinangady from Mani on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway.

In Kedila village, the driver of the lorry, which was following the motorcycle, tried to overtake and hit the motorcycle. Mohammed Ashiq and Mohammed Shafeeq fell off the motorcycle.

Passers-by sent the two to the nearby Bantwal Government hospital where they died.

The police said that the driver of the lorry abandoned the vehicle and escaped .
