Udupi: The two day farm festival –Krishi Mela organised at the Zonal Agricultural Research Centre, Brahmavar, was inaugurated on October 8, Monday by State minister for Ports and Mujrai Kota Srinivas Poojari. The event has been organized by the Centre with the co-operation of Krishsi Vigyan Kendra Brahmavar and Mangalore, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Watershed Department, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries and Forestry.
Dr K Narayana Gowda, Vice Chancellor of University of Agricultural Sciences, presided over the function. Raghupathi Bhat, Udupi MLA inaugurated a farm exhibition organized on the occasion. The Minister also inaugurated the administrative building of the Brahmavar Agriculture Research Centre. Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary, Udupi zilla panchayath president Katapadi Shanker Poojary, Dakshina Kannada Krishika Samaja president S D Sampat Samrajya, Shri Keshtra Dharmasthala Rural Development project Udupi director Dugge Gowda, ZP member Mallika Balakrishna Poojary and others were present.
As part of the fest there will be seminars on ‘Cashew Cultivation and Mixed Cropping System in Horticulture of the Coastal Zone’, ‘Profitable Dairy Farming and Subsidiary Enterprises,’ and and other relevant topics.
The farm exhibition features agricultural tools and implements, high rice yielding varieties and seed production, cashew grafting and various other stalls.
