Mangalore : A 2-day seminar was organized at St Aloysius College hall starting from Dec.1 in regard to higher education and the problem of shortage of qualified teachers.
Dr. Bhagyalakshmi, Director of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka inaugurated the 2-day seminar and stated that quality of higher education was the sine qua non (essential part) of all higher education, weather in arts or science or technology. She admitted that there was a shortage of qualified teacher’s v at the higher levels, in view of mushrooming colleges and universities in Karnataka. Without a standard quality the product of such higher education coming out of the colleges would be poor indeed and may not be help full in transforming the human society according to the needs of a larger public.
Prof. Mrinmoy Bhattacharya, Former General Secretary AIFUCTO, which organize the show along with AMUCT stated in his address to the gathering that the teachers of higher education have been given all facilities they needed to raise themselves to a higher level of living to contribute more to higher education for college students at the result shows that only 35% of them made good, while in western countries such percentage of higher level teachers could be even 60%. It is the bounden duty of all higher education teachers to carry the standards of higher education to all sections of the people wherever they may be as schools and colleges are found in every taluk level all over the country.
Prof. Ravi Srivastava and Prof. Sudhanshu Bhushan of New Delhi colleges presented their papers on higher education at the seminar.
Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva, Principal, St. Aloysius College presided over the seminar meeting.
Dr. A.M. Narahari, Chariman and Dr. Norbert Lobo, President AMUCT were present at the occasion.
