Mangalore: Former Chairperson of state Women’s Council and practising advocate, Pramila Nesargi inaugurated a seminar on “Women and social reforms” at Besant Evening College on Friday, sponsored by University Grants Commission and said that a uniform civil code is needle to protect more Indian women better, by assimilating the best points in Hindu Law, Muslim Law and Christian Laws prevailing in India.
The national level seminar is held for 2 days on Friday and Saturday here.
There are good points in every religion to protect women and it was not easy even in Sunny Pakistan to divorce a wife, under that law, Pramila said citing an instance.
People have to change their attitudes towards their own women. All families have working women and non-working, and they are equally having rights to property, hereditary or otherwise.
When men work outside home, women labour at home in many ways, she explained.
But women are exploited variously under customs and traditions. Child marriages are still rampant. Girl Children are sold for value. Courts must take active interest in such matters, when cases are reported to them, she said. Kudpi J. Shenoy presided. N.N. Shenoy thanked.
