Manipal: Two students of Manipal Institute of Technology met a watery grave while another survived when the boat in which they were having a jolly ride late at night at the Mannappalla lake near Manipal, capsized on Friday night.

The deceased are Kiran Chandra from Bangalore and Nikhila of Hyderabad. Another student Shaunak however managed to reach the banks by swimming.

According to reports, the students had initially gone for a swim and later decided to go on a ride in a boat which however was not in order. It is learnt that the boat began to sink when they were mid waters, after water began to enter the boat.
Though Shaunak was initially unaware as to what had happened, he waited for his friends to swim ashore, but when they were not in sight, complained to the Manipal police. The bodies were retrieved early Saturday morning.
