Belthangady: Several cases of drowning and loss of young lives have been reported from various parts of the district this monsoons. In a latest case, two young men were reported drowned in Gunderi River at Perodittayakatte, in Tenkarandooru on the evening of July 19, Thursday.

It is learnt that tragedy struck the two when they along with two others had been to the river for a bath after visiting the Karinja Temple on Aati Amavasye Day.

The deceased are Pradeep (25) of Karambar village and Vinaya Kumar Shetty(27) a resident of Berkala, near Punjalkatte.   It is learnt, the other two, one of them also named Pradeep from Venur and Poornaksha knew swimming and were able to swim ashore, while the rest two drowned despite efforts to save them. The bodies were retrieved later on.

Venoor police have registered a case.
