Bantwal: In a tragic incident, two youth reportedly drowned in the Netravathi at Kagekana in Jarkila of Bantwal on March 17, Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Satish and Jagadish, both aged 25 and residents of Peraje village.

It is said that the duo along with relatives and friends had gone for a bath in the river which is about 3 kms away. They had gone on such trips previously too.

Though the friends called the sand miners nearby for help, they escaped assuming it was some raid on illegal mining. The police and fire personnel were informed; they rushed to the spot, but were not able to trace the body till night.

Bantwal Rural Police have registered a case.
