Sakleshpur : Twenty students of a government higher primary school were hospitalised after consuming iron and folic tablets at Halasulige village in the taluk on Monday.
According to sources, the students were distributed Ferrous Sulphate and Folic Acid tablets around 12 noon. A few students complained of stomach ache after two hours of consuming the tablets and some vomited.
The teachers immediately informed the matter to 108 Ambulance and admitted the students to the Crawford Hospital for treatment.
The government, in an effort to prevent malnutrition among students, has introduced distribution of iron and folic supplements in the form of tablets. The tablets are administered once in two days.
Dr H R Jayaprakash said, “The tablets should be consumed after food. There are chances that these students may have consumed them before food. Then, it would have triggered gastric problems. They are out of danger and will be back to normal in a couple of days.”
