Mangalore: Sunni Students Federation (SSF) , now in its 25th year has done a commendable work of coming to the aid of 25 marriageable poor Muslim girls in DK district by a organizing a ceremony on Nikkah (lawful wedding) of 25 young men who wed 25 girls without taking a single rupee, by way of dowry today.
It was the celebration of silver jubilee of SSF in a novel and religious way. Inaugurating the event, general secretary of All India Sunni Ulema Federation Kanthapuram A P Aboobakkar Musliyar stated on the occasion that a new model program has been conducted in Muslim community by holding this kind of mass-marriage of 25 couples, free of dowry and so much social entozoan to uplift poor Muslim girls here. He further stated that the is an underprivileged section in among Muslims all over India and such section of parents of young girls cannot bear the cost of the dowry marriage when economy is so difficult to manage in recent times. What has happened here will become a tradition among poor Muslims to go all out to perform the marriages of their daughters without delay or dowry.
The ‘Nikah’ ceremony of 25 couples was performed by Shaikhuna Assayyed Abdurrahman Al-Bukhari and Shaikhuna M A Abdul Khader Musliyar.
Chancellor of Yenepoya University Y Abdullah Kunhi released the logo of the silver jubilee celebration of the federation. Usman Haji Mittur released a memorial edition ‘Ishara’.
As a part of the silver jubilee celebrations, 25,000 SSF members took a ceremonial oath pledging not to demand dowry. Several prominent personalities took part in the inaugural ceremony.
