Udupi:  A mass marriage organised by the G Shanker Family Trust and Udupi District Mogaveera Youth Organization at Shyamili Auditorium, Ambalpady, Udupi  on May 20, Monday, saw as many as 24 couples  tie the nuptial knot.

The rituals were  led by Vedamurthi Sagri Vedavyasa Aithal, chief priest of Anantheshwara Temple. A total of  129 pairs have entered into wedlock in the past five years.

Dr G Shanker, Founder of G Shanker Family Trust, said mass marriages  are a great boon to  economically weak families  Udupi District Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar,  s and also a solution to evils like dowry. He also urged the members of the community to shun extravagant spending on marriages.

Kumar, Additional DC of Udupi, Jaya C Kotian, President of the Udupi District Mogaveera Youth Organization, Shalini Shanker, Keshav Kunder, President of the DK District Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, were among others present on the occasion.
