Mangalore: Shekar L, Taluk convener of Naravi village of Belthangady Taluk said that around 25 adivasi malekudiya families residing in Kuthluru, Panjalu, Alamba and Mani coming under the limits of Naravi Gram Panchayath are not ready to vacate the houses and land for any cost.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on August 29, Wednesday, he said the DC on behalf of district administration said that the families will be given 2 acre of land, job and Rs 10 Lakh as the compensation for vacating the residing land.
He also said that during CM Jagadish Shettar’s visit to DK, one of the Malekudiya women have submitted an application to CM on behalf of Malekudiya’s stating that they are ready to leave the land.
He said that they are residing in the place from decades and belong to the schedule tribe, but still are cheated from the governmental facilities. Though we do not have the basic facilities, we live along with the nature. But the government’s new projects have made the malekudiya’s go away from their land and hurt the feeling of people.
He said that the government and NGO’s has shown the interest of money to the malekudiya’s and changed the mind of 31 families and made them to vacate their lands after taking the compensation. But the 25 families will not leave the place at any cost, he said.
None of the malekudiya’s would like to leave the place and go, but they have been forced by some of the NGO’s to do so, he said.
DC Dr N S Channappa Gowda on his visit to Belthangady, assured to provide jobs to the malekudiya youths before Aug 15, but still has not be done.
They also putforth the demands to the government like to withdraw the tiger project, provide documents to the people, no to make tourism project, stop harassing adivsai’s in the name of collecting information on Naxals, inform the people of holding the jan sampark meeting in adavance, giove information on naxal package use and others.
Vittala Malekudiya, gram samithi president Poovappa Malekudiya, grama samithi secretary Sudhakar Malekudiya and Taluk president Vasantha Nada were present at the press meet.
