Udupi: Leela (60), Sudha (50) and Ramanand Rao (68) died, Natesh, Vijitha and Dhanushree were burnt and hospitalized for injuries, Vivek and Umesh escaped un hurt when a bogie of Bangalore-Nanded express caught fire at Ananthpur on way to Mantralaya in Adonis district of Andhra Pradesh. The 3 dead passengers were all from Udupi but leaved in Chennai and were going to visit the holly town of Mantralaya. 3 more persons who were burnt have been taken to a hospital in Bangalore for burns treatment. The two persons who escaped without injuries were sitting away from the fire when the tragedy occurred on Dec.28 Saturday.
Union Railway minister Mallikarjuna Kharge of Gulbarga, visited the Ananthpur spot of Indian Railways were the sudden fire with no extinguishers around inside the bogie occurred on Saturday.
The people of Karnataka alive after the accident complained in public that neither the state Govt. nor the railways department of Kharge helped them in their hour of agony when they lost 3 relatives and 3 more are facing death now in hospital.
Kharge has told that the kith and the kin of the dead (26) including the 3 from Udupi will receive Rs.500000 each as compensation after the usual tests of the bodies and confirmation of DNA tests of the living persons.
