Mangalore : The 3 day State level wrestling competition was inaugurated at Shree Gokarnatheshwara PU College ground on Dec 1, Saturday.
The event was organized by Pre University Education Department and Shree Gokarnatheshwara PU College.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat said that according to Purana’s, Lord Hanuman was said to be the strongest wrestler and he is the role model for many wrestlers.
He also said that a wrestler must have desire to win the competition using his mind and strength.
A total of 210 boys and 64 girls from 25 districts have participated in various categories. The boys participated in various categories.
In the 96+ category constants Prajwal from DK and Vivek from Bangalore and in 96 categories Nagaprasad from Dharwad and Mohammed Nauraz from DK have presented their performances in front of the dignitaries.
Around 18 participants including 10 boys and 8 girls participated from Dakshina Kannada. Out of 10, 4 boys were from Shree Gokarnatheshwara PU College, two each from Govinda Dasa College and Yenepoya College and one each from Rosario and St Aloysius College.
Out of 8 girls, three were from Shree Gokarnatheshwara PU College and five from Alva’s College.
Deputy Mayor Amithakala, Physical director Purushottham, Vasanth Karandur, Dr B G Suvarna, K R Thimmayya, Dr B Gangadhar and Jagjeevandas Bhandarywere present.
