The practice of Anaesthesia in Mangalore can be dated back to 1955. Since then, the practitioners of this discipline have been serving humanity in their own unassuming ways. There were hardly any specialists to begin with. The surgeons themselves used to administer anaesthesia decades ago. Various specialties of Anaesthesiology have now emerged, and the city of Mangalore is proud to have so many specialties in Anesthesia.
The scope of anaesthesia has grown beyond the walls of operation theatres. Today most emergencies are tackled by them. Renowned Anesthesiologist Dr G R Sampigethaya, whose contributions to the field to Anaesthesia are unparalleled, will be felicitated during the conference, he added.
