Mangalore: Justice MN Venkatachalaiah, retired Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India stated today that scientific research work and scientists had to be nurtured to revive a scientific culture in society, while delivering the convocation address at the 29th Annual Convocation of Mangalore University at the newly built Mangala auditorium on Saturday (April 30).
The field of science and technology has provided the educated youth with fantastic new opportunities for a bright future these days, and all industrial progress needs the active support of science (knowledge) and applied science in many sectors of life. Economic progress is based on the quality of higher education, he added.
Governor of Karnataka and chancellor, HR Bhardwaj presented the degree certificates to students. Three honorary doctorates were conferred on scholar B. Govindacharya, Tulu writer and artist DK Chowta, as also the former DGP/IGP Ajaikumar Singh. Vice Chancellor TC Shivashankar Murthy welcomed the gathering.
