Mangalore: The crude oil storage project site belonging to Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited (ISPRL) at Kalavarpadavu near Bajpe came out with an sudden blast killing 3 people and injuring 5 on May 26, Thursday.
the poor safety measures in ISPRL premises led to the blast, said the sources.
The blast occurred when the labourers were working in the underground rock cave.
The police and fire service personnel are currently at the spot. Four injured workers, identified as Sheikh Abdul Gani (31), a safety engineer, Shivanath Chauhan (35), Lawrence Pereira (32), and Vikram Das, have already been rushed to Mangala Hospital in Mangalore. Another injured person has been admitted to AJ Hospital.
This project which comes under the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) is currently occupying 83 acres and is expected to be completed next year.
