Srinagar: Three persons were today killed when militants attacked a CRPF camp in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Unidentified militants opened fire at the CRPF camp at Gagran in Shopian, 52 kms from here, at around 1.00 PM and the security personnel retaliated, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, A G Mir said.
He said three persons were killed. Three weapons have been seized so far from the spot.
“We are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased,” he said.
Protests erupted in Shopian town and adjoining areas soon after the incident.
The protestors pelted stones at the local police station and clashed with security personel at several places, officials said.
Police and paramilitary personel fired teargas shells and used batons to disperse the protestors, they said.
Senior civil and police officers have rushed to the town and efforts are on to restore law and order, the officials said.
