Madikeri: Three drunken youth pranksters, K.D. Pawan(16), KD Sumant(15) and KC Mallesh(alias Shivu) aged 17 were arrested by local District Criminal Intelligence squad on Wednesday, in connection with the case of hanging a shoe on November 14 at 8-30PM(night) on the hand of the statue of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, he hero of Coorg and India, erected at the entrance of Madikeri road.

Huge protests and heart-burnings followed by local Kodagu citizens, after someone detected the act of disrespect to a War Hero and retired C-In-Chief  of Indian Army, by these 3 rowdy youths, who were sons of chaingate resident Chenna and Dechur resident Devaraju, who were drug addicts and anti-social in temperament.

On November 14 night, they sat down near Gen. Kariappa’s statue under the influence of liquor, and suddenly Shivu, the eldest son of Chenna took off  his shoe and put it hanging on the hand of the statue, while the other shoe was thrown away in a jungle nearby.

The other two boys (sons of Devaraju) were witnesses to this foolish act of K.C. Mallesh(Shivu-17).

Detective Inspector P.B. Bosaiah and ASI  AM Appaiah led the police team, in capturing the teen-aged culprits in a fortnight’s time. DCP Manjunatha Annigeri remanded the “3 musketeers” or boys, to Remand Home to cool their heels.
