Karkala: An Agro Festival (krishi mela) has started at Bajagoly near here on Wednesday. Such 30 events had taken place, under SDM Rural Development Scheme, as a major thrust towards welfare of farmers, in districts of Shimoga, Uttar Kannada, Chickmagalur, besides twin districts of DK and Udupi earlier.
The 31st Mela was conducted awith a colourful procession led by a tall elephant in march, and a man dressed as Gandhi was seated in a bullock-cart attracting crowd attention. Old tools of farming and products of a past age were shown in the procession tableaus. People standing on either side of the main road relished the scenes.
Dr.Veerendra Hegde chaired the opening session. Dr.M.Veerappa Moily came 90 minutes late to inaugurate the Mela amidst band and instrumental music. Several leading personalities were seated on the dais to hear Dr.Moily and Dr.Hegde.
