Udupi: The four-day long Padayatra organised by the KPCC from Ullal to Malpe, concluded at Malpe on February 1, Friday. Prior to the conclusion a bike rally was also organised by the Block Congress unit under the presidentship of Block Congress Chief Pramod Madhwaraj.
Speaking at the concluding function, KPCC Chief Dr G Parameshwar said the Congress had organised the padayatra to infuse confidence in the people of the district who are frustrated with the growing religious intolerance in the region. He said communal harmony is the need of the hour and the Congress would strive towards that direction.
Opposition leader Siddaramaiah who also spoke said people have a sense of insecurity under the BJP rule. Citing the two moral policing cases reported from Mangalore recently he said the Congress would protest against the practice unless the BJP government initiates stern measures against moral policemen.
Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes, former union minister CM Ibrahim, Janardhan Poojari, Udupi MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Ivan D’Souza, Vijaykumar Shetty, Sarala Kanchan, MA Gafur, Gopal Poojari, BA Moidin and several others were present.
