Mangalore: DK district administration celebrated 58th  Kannada Rajyotsava, at Neharu Maidan on November 1.  District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai hoisted the national flag  and he received guard of honour from the parade commander.

A colorful procession was held from Jyothi Circle to Nehru maidan at 7.45 am.  Kannada Bhuvaneshwari and other traditions and culture tableaux attracted to mark Kannada Rajyotsava procession.

B Ramanath Rai Delivered Kannada Rajyotsava Message and said that, Congress government implemented various developmental projects for Dakshina Kannada district. More than 1,79,293 below poverty line people getting 1 kg Rice on 1 Re in Anna Bhagya Scheme. and 1 to 10th standard,  1.2 core children’s getting Kshirabhagya benefits.   

More importance will be made in Kannada language, Regional languages such as Tulu, Konkani, Kodava, Beary and lambani also encouraged. State is contributing to the development of all the languages.

MLA’s J R Lobo and Moideen Bava, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Mcc Commissioner Ajit Kumar Shanadi, Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, IGP Pratap Reddy, Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar and other officers were also present.

20 achievers conferred with the Rajyotsava Award. Minister honored with Flower garland, Certificate, Shawl  to  the Bola Chittaranjan Das Shetty, B L Nagaraj and ‘Shanthi Prakashana’ (publishing house)for Literature; Harry D’Souza of Harry’s ‘Silver Band’ for Music, Suresh Attavar for Fine Arts, Leelavathi Baipadithaya for Yakshagana, Dayanand Kattalsar and Annu Paravan for Folklore, Dr D C Chowta for Agriculture, Dinesh Attavar for Theatre, P B Harish Rai and Harish for Media, Elias Sanctis for Social service, Aravind Bolar for Cinema, Vijaya Vittalanath Shetty for Art Patronage, Prakash Devadiga for Classical music, Maruthi Yuvaka Mandala (Ullal) for Organization, Dr Annayya Kulal for Kannada-favouring service, Madhava Ullal for  Environment and Umesh Rao Yekkur for Education.

Black flag  Protest

DYFI, Forum Against Atrocities on Women, SFI, DSS, and CITU prepared a protest march to Nehru Maidan and tried to enter the venue.

Protesters put pressure to minister Ramanath Rai on Sowjanya rape case.
 
The police stopped the protestors and arrested.
