Mangaluru : DK district administration celebrated the 59th Karnataka Rajyotsava with a special view that the name of Mangalore is officially re christened as ‘Mangaluru’, at Nehru Maidan on Saturday, November 1.
District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai hoisted the national flag and he received guard of honour from the parade commander on the occasion.
A colorful procession was held from Jyothi Circle to Nehru maidan at 7.45 am. Kannada Bhuvaneshwari and other traditions and culture tableaux attracted to mark Kannada Rajyotsava procession.
A nameplate of ‘Mangaluru’, with bunches of tri-coloured balloons flew high into the skies on the occasion.
The traffic police, police band, civil police, women police, NCC Air Wing (Junior), NCC Air Wing (Senior), Scouts, Guides, Bharat Seva Dal, NCC (Senior), NCC (Junior), fire and emergency services, CRI/ DRI, home guards, reserved police and road safety patrol total of 14 groups participated in the march past.
Speaking on the occasion Rai said that, the State Government officially announced the 12 cities name on Karnataka Rajyotsava day . All the name reflect the native cultural flavor as well as Kannada flavor.

Air Wing NCC (Senior) and Bharat Seva Dal won the first and second place respectively for their march fast. The fire and emergency service department showcased the fire fighting abilities of the newly introduced Bronto Sky Lift Aerial Ladder and bike-mounted mist technology backup system (Agni).
Hoysala and Keladi Chenamma Shourya Awards were conferred on Megha Manoj, Anwesha Jain, Akasatha Shetty, Sushmitha B S, Shreya S Suvarna, Kavana T and Greeshma Kini. Incentives were also given to the schools that had recorded cent per cent results.
Students with excellent achievements in various fields received Rs 10,000 each. They are, Meghana Manoj (first) and Anwesha Jain (second) in art, Akshata Shetty B (first), and Sushmita B S (second) in education, Shreya S Suvarna (first) and Kavana T (second) in sports, and Greeshma Kini (first) in culture sector.
