Mangaluru : Dept. of Business Administration-MBA organized “Sahyadri Whiz-Quiz 2019′, a quiz competition for undergraduates in the Sahyadri Campus. Around 9,000 students participated in the college level quiz, out of which 950 students from selected 50 colleges in the district of Mangalore, Udupi, Kodagu, Karwar, Belgaum, Shimoga, Hassan, Chikmagalur and Kasargod were at the campus for the Grand Finale of the 5th edition of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz.
Mrs. Iris Kunder Maben, an IT and Horticulturist from Mumbai along with Ms. Kavya Gatty, a Senior Officer-Recruitment at TESCO, Bengaluru who is also an alumna of Sahyadri MBA graced the event as Chief Guest & Guest of Honour respectively marking the importance of International Women’s Day.
Prof. Girish M, Chief Coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019 welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA introduced Sahyadri and the Dept. of Business Administration to the gathering. She also gave the bird’s eye view of the flagship event Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019.
During the inaugural address, Mrs. Iris Kunder Maben spoke about women empowerment and urged each one to never compromise on their dreams and expectations and aim to be financially independent. She shared her journey of life and hoped that it would inspire the young minds.
Ms. Kavya Gatty, spoke about her life at Sahyadri and how the challenges and hard work during her two years of study shaped her future. She further urged students to take up opportunities that come their way to showcase their talent. To talk about women empowerment, she highlighted the journey of Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA who was her mentor.
Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal in his Presidential address conveyed that Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is one of the forums to develop their knowledge and skills and should capitalize the opportunity available to them.
Prof. Ramesh K G, coordinator of the event gave away the vote of thanks. Mr. Reese Mathews, Chief Manager, Canara Bank, Bendoorwell, Mangaluru was the Quiz Master.
Immediately after the formal function, the first preliminary round was held. Out of 315 teams of 3 each, 150 teams qualified to the second preliminary round. Finally 6 teams were selected for the Grand Finale.
Mr. Jayaraj Rai, Chairman, Shri Ramakrishna Credit Co-operative Society and Ms. Vidya Shenoy, Head-Talent Acquisition, Manipal Technologies Ltd felicitated the winners during the Valedictory Cere. Mahesh College of Commerce & Management, Mangaluru won 1st prize with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 25,000, Dept. of Commerce, Manipal won 2nd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, SDM Ujire won 3rd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
