Bangalore : Police have arrested six youths, including two teenagers, on charges of raping a 21-year-old student of National Law School of India University (NLSIU) on October 13 night, Commissioner of Police Jyothi Prakash Mirji said on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, hesaid the eight miscreants, who were sandalwood smugglers, entered Bangalore University campus in search of sandalwood tree. When they saw the a girl student sitting with her friend and conversing, they threatened and dragged them to their van and after travelling some distance pushed the boy out of the vehicle and drove away to a lonely place where they allegedly gang raped the student.
On receiving a complaint a seven-member team were formed to nab the culprits. The team succeeded in nabbing six, four from Ramnagara, about 60 km from Bangalore, two from Mettaredoddi hills in the same area. Search was on for two more persons, he added.
Mr Mirji said the arrested were identified as Mallesh, Maddura, Doddahiraiah, Shivanna, Eraiah, Yeliyayya. Search was on to nab Rama and Raja.
He said the arrested persons had confessed the crime. Mobile phone robbed from the victim was recovered.
