Mangalore, Jul 28: Rajesh, District Surveillance Officer said that six samples out of the 16, which were sent to KMC Manipal has been tested positive for H1N1 in Mangalore this week.
The six patients are getting treatment at two hospitals in Mangalore. Five of the patients are from Mangalore and one is from Madikeri. An adequate supply of Tamiflu tablets are being supplied to hospitals treating H1N1 patients.
Mr. Rajesh explained that none of the patients had returned from abroad or visited other places. The virus was active in the community owing to weather conditions and those with lower immunity were affected. Three patients have already been discharged because they responded favorably to treatment.
On July 22, a pregnant woman who had recently recovered from swine flu died; however, doctors said that the lady died because of pregnancy complications and not because of H1N1. Basavaraj (43) of Indiranagar, who was diagnosed with H1N1 a week back, died of swine flue at a hospital in Manipal on Monday night.
Legislator Kimmane Ratnaka convened a meeting of elected representatives, doctors and officials at the Taluk Panchayat to discuss measures to control the spread of H1N1.
