Mangalore: Heavy rains that lashed the Shiradi Ghat area on Friday night made travel on the route absolutely nightmarish. With land slides reported from as many as ten places traffic came to a grinding halt on the Mangalore-Bangalore National Highway for several hours. Several trees have also been uprooted.
Even the Kannur –Yeshwanthpur train service has been cancelled due to landslides between Sakleshpur and Subrahamanya.
According to Sakleshpur police officials, the landslide which started at 6 am, was finally cleared by the NH authorities using excavators by 2 pm. Sources at Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road railway stations said, land slips started from 1 pm on Friday due to heavy rains in the Shiradi Ghat area since Thursday night.
