Mangaluru : Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner B A Mohammed Nazir has said that 66 projects proposed by the Corporation have been approved by the authority concerned and the detailed project reports of the works are being drawn.
Addressing reporters at the Mangaluru City Corporation on Wednesday, he said that tenders have been invited for various works such as road development works, smart bus shelters and clock tower.
Road development works are planned at an estimate of Rs 7.56 crore.
The works include the development of A B Shetty Circle, replacement of medians and street lights on the Clock Tower – A B Shetty road, construction of separate ducts for cables and stormwater drains in Bunder area, landscape development near Nehru Maidan with installation of ornamental lightening, Wi-Fi enabled smart poles, CCTV cameras and air quality monitoring display smart board.
Commissioner Nazir said that the road works and laying a new clock tower will be done under ADB assistance.
The UGD zone – 4 works will be carried out in Nellikai road in Bunder at a cost of 4.995 crore. The loop is up to 2.3 km.
A multi-level car parking zone will come up at Hampankatta at Rs 120 crore. The project proposal is awaiting clearance from KUIDFC.
Nazir further said that 22 smart bus shelters with e-toilets will be built in various parts of the city, under a pan city programme. Eight of these shelters are of ‘A’ category (with e-toilet and 7.5 metre in length), nine of ‘B’ category (without e-toilet and 7.5 metre in length) and five ‘C’ category (six metre in length) bus shelters.
The bus shelters will be built at a cost of Rs 4.8 crore. The shelters will come up at Mak Mall, Gerosa School, St Agnes College, Kadri Market, Kadri Service Station, KPT Junction (two bus shelters), Bondel Junction, Kavoor Junction, Mullakad, Kottara Cross, opposite Bharath Mall, Bharath Mall, MCC Commercial Complex, Lalbagh (two bus shelters), Urwa Store Junction, Padavinagady Junction, Chilimbi, Katipalla Junction, Hotel Lalith International, Surathkal, Pachchanady and Kodikal Road.
Mayor Kavitha Sanil said that a separate tender has been invited for the construction of a clock tower at Hampankatta signal at an estimation of Rs 90 lakh.
As an attempt to reinvent the past glory, a 21-metre-high clock tower will be designed in an antique style with clocks on four sides, the Mayor said and added that it was her dream project to see a clock tower in Hampankatta.
Nazir said that a Control Command Centre (CCC) will be set up in Mangaluru under the smart city programme. The CCC is focused on the monitoring of smart solutions. The CCTV footage, Wi-Fi enabled smart poles and air quality surveillance systems will be monitored through the CCC. The centre will be set up in the MCC building.
Also, with the installation of Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA), water distribution networking system will be monitored to check the volume of water from source to bulk storage at various levels. This will help to measure the exact quantity of revenue, non-revenue and wastage water, Nazir said.
