Kasargod : Kasargod police have arrested seven persons on charges of committing dacoity in the house of one Rajesh Shenoy of Kumble on December 22. The arrested are : Abdul Ghafoor (52) of Bunder, Mangalore, Mohammed Haris (34) of Kasargod, Abdul Aziz (44) of Sampya Aryapu, Mohammed Ashraf (36) of Mangalpady, Narasimha Pai alias Murthy (50) of Kumble, Abubakker Siddique (22) of Farangipet and his relative Abubakker Siddique (29).
They had stolen nearly 45 sovereigns of gold and a cash of Rs 25000 from the house that day by entering through back door, tying the family members down and rendering them unconscious using chloroform.
Kasargod SP Surendran, said a total of nine persons were involved in the dacoity and that all the arrested had provided false information to a criminal gang in Mangalore that Rajesh Shenoy had Rs 5 crore in the house. It is said the thieves after searching for the cash had escaped with whatever gold and cash they could lay hands on. Kasargod police have also sought the help of Mangalore police in apprehending two other accused in the case.
The SP has exuded confidence of arresting the remaining accused at the earliest.
