Mangalore : The Teachers’ Day was jointly celebrated by the public education department and the DK District Zilla Panchayat (ZP) at A. B. Shetty Hall on Sep 5, Wednesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly N. Yogish Bhat said that teachers shape the society and hence they must be provided with sufficient salaries to lead comfortable lives.
He also urged the general public to respect the teachers and realize their importance in life.
Mangalore City Corporation commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar said that earlier teachers were the source of information and education to the students, but now they get information from other sources like books, the Internet, and TV. Hence now teachers must endorse the students to improve their creativity and knowledge.
Around 71 teachers were felicitated for their contribution to the education on this occasion.
