Bantwal: As many as 768 caste and income certificates were issued to beneficiaries in a single day, but kept pending for several months, on Thursday when DC/DK Dr.Chennappa Gowda paid a surprise visit to Bantwal Taluk office to quicken files disposal and all pending work of any other nature for over 15 days.
Gowda made a visit on Wednesday also (Aug.24) only to scold the office staff for their laziness to clean relevant files. He ordered them to deliver the certificates to the doors of the beneficiaries by Aug 25(Thursday) evening. When an (TO) employee failed to attend to 300 files for long, DC Gowda ordered that disbursement of his salary be with held.
Taking the DC seriously, village accountants and revenue officials speeded up the disposal of certificates by Wednesday (Aug.24) evening, by showing more efficiency in their duties.
Office work had piled up for 3 months after the transfer o local Tahsildar, Ravichandra Nayak, and no replacement officer arrived for 3 months. Vijay acted as in charge but did not get computerised authorisation to pass files.
Narayana Rao, new Tahsildar, took charge recently. Colleges and schools had started by then. The certificates confer concessions varying from Rs.200 to Rs.1000 from primary school to college, for students. The parents had paid their fees already, when certificates reached them.
