New Delhi: The Mudgal Committee that examined the dope cases of 8 the athletes suspended Indian athletes – on the eve of their journey to take part in Japan Asiatic meet for testing positive against banned drugs, has given a clean chit to all the 8 athletes.
The group included Ashwini Akkunje from coastal region, who had done well in commonwealth Games in Delhi, and Asian Games in China in 2010, but came under the doping scandal and was dishonoured subsequently, owing to the Ukrainian coach Yuri who misguided her and other athletes in food matters.
The one man facts-finding committee established that the 8 athletes had taken ginseng, a permissible supplement to food, which was contaminated with the banned substances (anabolic steroids), but concluded that the doping was unexpected and ‘accidental’ and the 8 athletes could not be blamed for what had happened to them.
The 8 athletes now hope to compete in London Olympics – 2012 in various races and other contests, after securing a clearance from a disciplinary panel of NADA.
